Journal Entry 1/25/21
My name is Alexandra Oslowski and I am a fifth-year graduating journalism student at San Diego State University. My pronouns are she/her/hers and I go by Alexa. I am born and raised in Cameron Park, California, and my brother and I both currently live in San Diego.
I am currently an Intern at East County Magazine and in my second year as Photo Editor at The Daily Aztec. I am a photographer and multimedia journalist and preparing to enter the workforce. My journal for the semester will follow my progress throughout my final capstone project which will be focused on the San Diego community. I am looking forward to further connecting to my community, especially as I begin to search for jobs and hope to stay in San Diego.
One of my most important goals for this class is to go out of my comfort zone with what I want to center my semester project on. While I am leaning towards diving deeper into COVID-19 in my communities, I want to look beyond what is currently being covered by the news. How is the vaccine rollout affecting low-income communities or communities of color? Is the county underserving certain neighborhoods even more during the pandemic? There are deeper stories to be told, and this course is a great opportunity to see what stories I can share.
